AZAD Hind Expedition

Azad Hind Expedition led by Mr. Akhil Bakshi was an adventures journey to commemorate 50th anniversary of the the grand march taken by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s Azad Hind Fauz (Indian national Army) in 1943. Expedition was flagged off on 15th Dec 1995 at azad hind Memorial in Singapore, travelled to Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar (Burma) and entered to Imphal, Manipur(India). Azad hind Fauz reached upto Imphal in 1945 and then it’s Journey was stopped due to defeat of Japan.

Expedition travelled through Manipur, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Assam, Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, UP and reached to Red Fort at Delhi on 28th Jan 1996. On this occasion many veterans of Azad Hind Fauz gathered to welcome Expedition because Red fort was the final destination of Azad Hind Fauz and the dream of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose.

This Expedition in 5 Armada Jeeps, travelled about 12000 kms. and comprised of 20 members from different field, region & communities. The team consisted of 3 veterans of Azad Hind Fauz viz Col. G.S. Dhillon (commandant of Nehru Brigade), Col. (Dr.) Laxmi Sahagal (Commandant of Rani laxmi Brigade) and Cap. S.S. Yadav (Gen. Sec. of INA Committee).

Famous Film Star & Social Worker Sunil Dutt, few Academician and myself (Expedition Doctor) were other members.
The Expedition was filmed by famous Cinematographer Kabir Khan who along with Mr. Akhil Bakshi made the film “The Forgotten Army”
